The lastest filler, Juvéderm Vollure XC, using Vycross Technology hit the market earlier this spring. It’s from Allergan, the pharmaceutical company that makes Botox and Juvéderm. You made have read about it as Volift, it’s name in Europe. Juvéderm Vollure is approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and is the first filler of its kind to last as long as 18 months – a full 6-12 months longer than other injectables approved for the same facial areas!
My experience with Juvéderm Vollure XC so far:
Juvéderm Vollure is a new and improved Juvéderm. I’m EXCITED about this improvement because after injecting Vollure for only 2 months vs my 8 years of injecting all other fillers, I am able to create an even more natural look for my patients. I’ll explain the science below but Vollure essentially sits in that sweet spot where it is firm enough to fill the line, but soft enough to move naturally with facial expression. It can almost be used anywhere on the face other than cheeks and if I were going to be stranded on an island and could only take one injectable, this would be it!
Another major difference I am noticing between Juvéderm and the new Juvéderm Vollure is that this new formula produces minimal swelling in most of my patients, which means shorter recovery time. I notice less trauma to the blood vessels and less bruising which I attribute to the molecular weight (I’ll explain below). Also since Vollure’s gel lasts longer than other products, it makes it a better value for the price and should increase the need for fewer injection sessions.
Ok, now for the science part of Juvéderm Vollure XC:
Juvéderm Vollure XC uses the special technology, Vycross, the same technology used in my other favorite product, Juvéderm VOLUMA, which is approved for cheeks and the newer lip-line filler, Juvéderm Volbella , which is approved for lips and smoker lines around the mouth.
Vycross helps hold the hyaluronic acid together into a cohesive gel and keeps it intact after it’s injected into the skin, which helps increase product longevity. Juvéderm Vollure uses Vycross technology and advances the game by linking both high and low molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, while the older technology of Hyalcross in Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus primarily use cross-linking of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid.
My top 3 Take Aways of what I call the “Magic Mixture” of high and low hyaluronic acid found in Juvéderm Vollure XC:
1. creates a more connected gel which helps more effectively lift sunken skin and fill folds better than ever
2. keeps a more natural look that most patients desire
3. increases the longevity of patient results
